On your Bike!
Are increasing fuel costs making us turn to cycling for our commute?
For many there is no better way to travel than by car, having your very own form of transport is often considered the ideal way to get from A to B. However, the cost of driving can be expensive, from buying the car itself, to paying for insurance, road tax, and car maintenance, so with the cost of fuel rising daily many are looking at alternative and cheaper ways to get about.
So whether you’re new to it or an old hand, the benefits of cycling cannot be overstated. It’s not just economic benefits either, there are many health and environmental benefits to be enjoyed.
Bike commuting helps society in several ways. It’s less wear and tear on the public roads, less pollution in the air (car pollutants have a huge impact on global warming as well as damaging the ozone layer) and is a way of helping or improving both physical and mental health.

Whether it’s going into work or just out for a ride, cycling with a friend or joining a group means you can enjoy the activity together and/or meet like-minded people so can be a great way to socialise. Alternatively, a solo ride can be a good way to take a break from everyday life and clear your head.
While cycling isn’t always convenient for longer journeys or isn’t suitable for everyone there has certainly been an increase in people getting on their bikes.
Our own managers Andy and Kelvin have signed up to a cycle challenge of their own this year -please see the link to read their story.
